Cain Elementary Physical Education teacher Holly Drain has been awarded a grant to attend the Texas Association for Health and Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (TAHPERD) annual conference.

Drain was one of 35 grant recipients to receive the grant out of the over 2,000 teachers who are eligible. Drain and Cain Elementary are being recognized for educating students about heart disease by conducting a Jump Rope for Heart event. During the February 2014 event Cain students raised $4,460 for the organization an increase from the previous year’s total of $1,293.

“I am very grateful to WISD for letting me accept this grant and attend the annual TAHPERD conference,” Drain said. “This annual conference is the foundation from which our curriculum is built.”

This year’s conference will be held in December 2014 in Galveston.
