The Whitehouse Junior High School National Junior Honor Society took great strides to provide Christmas gifts for children of Smith County.

As part of their community service and charity projects, NJHS members participated in a Toys-for-Tots Walk-a-Thon to raise money. NJHS members received pledges based on the number of miles they walked over five afternoons.

Organization members raised approximately $8,200, more than four times the amount raised during last year’s inaugural campaign.

NJHS members took the money they raised and shopped for toys for children of all ages. The toys were then dropped off at the Whitehouse Fire Department to be given to local children.

"My heart is full of pride for these amazing students who worked so hard to raise money for so many children in need this holiday season,” Denise Martin, NJHS Adviser said. “They walked a total of 987 miles in five afternoons. Our goal for this year was $3,000, and we well exceeded it by raising a total of $8,177,” Martin added.
