2013 COLLEGE BOARD AP SCHOLAR AWARDS

Seventeen students from Whitehouse High School have earned the designation of AP SCHOLAR by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program (AP) Exams in the spring of 2013.

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program offers students the opportunity to take challenging college-level courses while still in high school, and to receive college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams. About 18 percent of the more than 1.8 million high school students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to merit the recognition of an AP Scholar Award.

WILDCAT NOMINATED FOR AWARD

Nate Brooks has been nominated for Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week, presented by Campbell’s Texas Football and AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl. Brooks is one of 10 nominated for this week’s award. WISD GT NOMINATIONS

Academic News
Whitehouse ISD is accepting nominations for assessment of giftedness in students in Grades 1-5 who show high academic potential. Anyone can nominate a student for assessment, including parents, other relatives, guardians, and school personnel. Nomination forms can be requested from your child’s classroom teacher or counselor. Additional testing will be needed to determine the child’s educational needs. Parents must provide permission to administer ability and achievement tests and must also complete a questionnaire. All forms are due to the school counselor by Friday, April 12, 2013.
 

CAIN ELEMENTARY PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER AWARDED FOR HARD WORK

Cain Elementary Physical Education teacher Holly Drain has been awarded a grant to attend the Texas Association for Health and Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (TAHPERD) annual conference.

Drain was one of 35 grant recipients to receive the grant out of the over 2,000 teachers who are eligible. Drain and Cain Elementary are being recognized for educating students about heart disease by conducting a Jump Rope for Heart event. During the February 2014 event Cain students raised $4,460 for the organization an increase from the previous year’s total of $1,293.
